You’ve purchased a hot tub and created your own backyard oasis. The installers have left and the landscapers just pulled out of the driveway. Suddenly you think to yourself, “How do I maintain my new hot tub? How complicated is hot tub maintenance?” Your new hot tub does require regular maintenance but it’s neither difficult nor too complicated. With just a few easy steps, completed on a consistent schedule, you will be well on your way to years of enjoyment with your therapeutic hot tub. Keep reading to learn more about a month in the life of a hot tub owner!
Weekly: Test Your Hot Tub Water
It’s a simple task but a very important one–be sure to test your hot tub water on a weekly basis. Water testing kits are available in strip form.
Testing your water is at the very center of hot tub maintenance. Weekly water testing can keep your hot tub in great condition. Be sure to check the alkalinity and pH levels, so that your hot tub chemicals can be adjusted accordingly.
It’s recommended to have your water professionally tested monthly. By doing this, any potential issues can be identified and quickly corrected.
Monthly: Clean Hot Tub Filters
There are a few simple maintenance tasks that need to be done monthly, in order to keep your hot tub filter clean and fresh.
To clean, remove your filter and thoroughly rinse it with hose water. If your filters are extra dirty, use a specialized filter cleaner and wash your filters. Do a second thorough rinse then place back in your hot tub.
Washing often will help the longevity of your hot tub filters.
Quarterly: Clean Your Hot Tub and Cover
Not only does cleaning your hot tub make it look great, but it can also extend the life of your hot tub too! Be sure to use a mild non-abrasive cleaner and a soft sponge above the waterline, to remove dirt and debris.
Always clean your hot tub cover as needed, as well. Hot Spring recommends that you take the cover off of the hot tub, rinse it with your hose, and use non-abrasive cleaners (dish soap works!) to clean heavier soiled areas. While this doesn’t need to be done every month, you should do a monthly once-over of your hot tub cover to check that it’s in good condition.
